So everyone knows that you can use a GPS to record your route and to tell you where to go if you enter the waypoints, etc. But I really like my GPS for its elevation feature.
Not all GPS units show your elevation, but most hiking ones do these days. It’s worth having for one purpose alone: I know exactly how far I am from the summit of the mountain. I can tell that the promising-looking peak in front of me is actually a false summit. Knowing my elevation keeps my expectations in check, because I usually think that I’m going faster and higher than I am.
Does that make sense? Do you have a GPS? What do you use it for?
