Hangboards are expensive and they’re a pain to mount, especially if you’re renting the place you live in and don’t want to deal with having to patch up the holes you make. A couple months ago, I bought one of those pull-up bars that attaches to your door frame. You don’t have to drill any holes, and it leaves no marks. Sure it’s not as good as a hangboard for climbing-specific training, but it’s a lot cheaper and easier to deal with. The thing is easily detachable and apparently you can use it to do pushups and situps too, though I haven’t tried it.
Oh, and it was $20 at Wal-Mart. I think it’s called the Gold’s Gym Door Gym.

Just got one. I’m really excited to use it. Nice thing about pullups, is it’s a great way to develop your core strength (if you use your legs), and having a bar just sitting around means that you can just do a few at a time throughout the day and stay in shape. I think they’re great.
A word of caution, we got one of these and it didn’t work on our door frames. I bet it’s just an isolated incident. but we had to take ours back.
