Video: Fly through the Fisher Towers

March 15, 2010

The Fisher Towers in Utah are probably my single favorite climbing area. They’re just… otherworldly. They’re so beautiful and the climbing there is so mental. It’s awesome. So today’s climbing tip is to climb in the Fishers! And to whet your appetite a bit, here’s an amazing video. It was made by attaching an HD video camera to an RC helicopter and flying it over and around the towers. So cool! Be sure to make it full screen when you watch it.

I’ve only climbed in Indian Creek, how does the rock in the Fisher towers compare to IC sandstone? Crumblier?

The rock in the Fisher Towers is significantly worse than Indian Creek sandstone. Its crumbly and sandy. Cracks on less traveled routes are often caked in mud. Its exactly this challenging nature of the climbing (and the amazing formations) that makes the Fishers such a unique climbing area.
